During an interview with Glamour, Christina Aguilera spoke up about being body-shamed, and how her self-esteem was determined by “how skinny” she was. Christina stated she was obsessed with her weight, and how it became difficult to navigate, as people often commented on how she looked and how much she weighed.

 

Talking about her teenage years, Christina Aguilera said,

“When you’re a teenager, you have a very different body than when you’re in your 20s. I started to fill out, and then that was unacceptable because it was like, ‘Oh, she’s getting thicker.’ Then I had industry people: ‘They liked your body and how you were as a skinny teenager.’”

 

“I have a maturity now where I just don’t give a fu*k about your opinion. I’m not going to take it on. It must be your responsibility to take up your space. Other people’s opinions of me are not my business.”

However, she claimed that over the years, her mindset has changed. With her new mindset, she now wishes to give her kids the perfect balance of safety and freedom.

 

Speaking about her kids, Aguilera said,

“Your kids trigger things in you that you don’t want them to go through. And it’s almost like you’re reliving this whole thing again. … You just want the best for your kids.”

During the interview, she also stated that the reason she has adopted this mindset is that she has “seen so much so young,” that she wishes her kids can adopt her mindset and thinking early in life. Christina Aguilera said,

“I love my son and my daughter so much, and you do want to shield and protect them from the world. But they have to learn their own lessons.”

Christina Aguilera released her last album, Aguilera, in 2022, which received acclaim from the masses. She was also seen in a few movies over the years, namely Zoe, The Emoji Movie, and Burlesque.

The artist has been the recipient of many awards, including the Billboard Latin Music Awards, Billboard Music Video Awards, Blockbuster Entertainment Awards, Grammy Awards, and even the VH1 Awards.
